Almost Airborn

I write this as I am at the gate, awaiting my 8 1/2 hour flight from Minneapolis to Amsterdam. I then layover 4 hours before flying another 9 hours through Kigali, Rwanda, finally landing in Entebbe, Uganda late evening September 13. A shuttle should transport me to a simple nearby hotel, where hopefully I will be able to sleep. Then morning of September 14 our driver Simon Peter collects us for the 6 hour drive through Kampala to Mbale in eastern Uganda. We will begin training trainers Sept. 15 in Mbale.

A number of us have quickly sent messages to my update, letting me know of your prayers. I do not take those for granted. The days leading up to this trip have been stressful as I described in my article "power surge". And each day of the next 19 days I am not in control of much of anything. I am dependent on pilots, connections, drivers, hosts, protection from illness and crime and trouble on the roads, etc.

Pray I will live humbly, at peace being dependent. Psalm 84 has given me good things to pray...would you pray those with me, and for me. The last few verses speak of the Lord as our "sun and shield" (guidance and protection), who gives "grace and glory" (favor and impact) and who "does not withhold any good thing" from those who do right (good things - I want to be in that line).

2 Timothy 1:7 has been on my mind these days as well. I want to be in step with and dependent on the power, love and self discipline available to us in the Lord.

More updates in coming days, as wifi allows.
